A message from our President
To All OACUSA Members
The OACUSA Executive Committee and members of the OACUSA 2020 Conference Planning Committee met earlier today. After considering the escalating spread of the COVID-19 virus, direction received from our governments/Health Departments and in the best interests of all stakeholders, the Executive Committee unanimously agreed to cancel the June conference.
Our Director of Conferences Mike MacKinnon and Conference Planning Committee leads Roman Calvano and Leanne Jackson presented a contingency plan for rescheduling the conference to May or June 2021. The Executive Committee agreed to accept this contingency plan.
To provide further information as to what will occur, please refer to the below points
An invitation will be extended to the slated 2020 speakers and sponsors to attend the conference next year.
The Blue Mountain Resort will charge a $25 room reservation cancellation fee. Please make this contact as soon as possible to avoid increased cancellation fees. It is our understanding that cancellation fees may be refunded upon management’s decision to close the resort for the same specific timeframe.
Upon request to our Treasurer Susete Araujo-Vizinho (), conference registration fees will be refunded. Any registration fees not refunded will be held in trust for the 2021 conference.
Consistent with our bylaws:
An Annual General Meeting (AGM) must occur in the spring. Arrangements will be made to have a virtual AGM meeting in late May or early June. There must be a quorum of at least ten Institutional members excluding the Executive Committee. More information will follow.
An election must be held in even years for a President, Vice-President of Colleges and Secretary. An Elections Committee will be established in the next week or two. Dependent on the amount of nominations an election may be necessary. It is anticipated that an online voting process such as Survey Monkey will be utilized.
The Awards Committee has received five nominations. These awards will be announced by email sometime prior to the AGM. Official recognition and presentations will occur at either the fall meeting or at the 2021 conference.
The Cambridge Hotel and Conference Centre will tentatively be the Fall meeting location between October 14 and 16, 2020.
I want to thank the Conference Planning Committee and the Executive Committee for all their hard work. Although the current circumstances are disappointing, upcoming conferences and meetings will continue to occur.
The Executive Committee will keep you informed of any further updates.
Stay well and stay safe!
