Western is seeking to fill the position of Director, Campus Safety & Emergency Services to provide strategic leadership and operational management to a responsive safety and security program which includes Western Special Constable Service, Fire Safety, Emergency Management & Continuity of Operations, Foot Patrol, Building Access & Security, and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED).
About the Role
As Director, you will report to the Vice-President (Operations & Finance) and be responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategy with over 40,000 internal community members and facilitating connections within the London community including police and fire services. You will coach and motivate a team of thirty staff focused on maintaining a safe and secure campus environment, and will monitor administrative, financial and HR operations in this complex and diverse environment, supporting the management of risks to the University and to CSES. In addition, you will provide leadership and oversight to the Emergency Management program, you will be a member of the Emergency Operations Control Group (EOCG), Chair of the Emergency Response Committee for Crisis Management, and serve as Incident Commander and first responder for the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
About You
As the ideal candidate, you possess a degree (ideally at the graduate level) and a valid Ontario driver’s licence, supported by a minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in law enforcement and membership in the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP). Experience at the senior officer/executive level of a law enforcement agency is also an asset. You have knowledge of human and asset security, and security systems, as well as significant experience in managing the development and implementation of programs that support compliance with policies, statutes and best practices, including experience with HR principles and financial analysis.
You are a gifted project manager, a skilled communicator and innovative thinker, and you possess strong analytical and investigative skills, as well as crisis management abilities. You have thorough knowledge of cultural diversity and principles of equity, inclusion and community composition, and the ability to inspire and motivate teams to excellence in a safe and respectful work environment. You are approachable, positive, and recognize when and where change is required. You thrive in a results oriented environment, and enjoy being an active contributor to a senior management team.
