Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager Security Services, the incumbent assists in the coordination of Security Services for all of the main campuses, satellite campuses and two Student Residences. The incumbent is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of an effective and comprehensive security program at Seneca. This includes, dealing with all day to day issues, concerns or complaints, ensuring proper guard coverage, creating and implementing security and crime prevention programs, assisting with ongoing investigations, and supporting the Director with Emergency Response procedures. The incumbent provides regular advice, support and guidance to the Seneca community on a wide variety of public safety and security issues. The incumbent provides after-hour response in conjunction with the Manager, Security Services.
Responsibilities:
Campus Security Operations
Provides 24/7 support, guidance and consultation on a variety of issues related to security and emergency management;
Coordinates and implements security services at all campuses;
Involved in the initial security response to situations/incidents and ensures appropriate emergency services are advised including notification to management and others as required;
Reviews daily security reports and takes appropriate action and/or follow up to ensure incidents are properly dealt with or resolved;
Oversees and performs incident investigations. Conducts interviews, collects relevant and accurate information in a professional and lawful manner in conjunction with Student Conduct, Human Resources and external agencies; Maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times.
When required, responds to medicals, fires or any other Seneca emergency.
Vendor Management
Oversees the hiring and placement decisions of the third party contracted security service provider;
Ensures appropriate training and policies are followed on behalf of the College;
Liaises with contracted security company to ensure efficient operations of services, products and equipment;
Monitors contractor services and addresses concerns. Escalates to the Manager, Security Services and the contractor Management if necessary.
Ensures Security staff working under the service contract are fully trained and familiar with their role, responsibility and their response.
Works with the Security Manager and third party contractor management on ensuring all Standard Operating Procedures and Post Orders are up to date and relevant including any legislation changes;
Reviews Vendor contract to ensure compliance of the contract and escalate any unresolved issues to the Manager, Security Services.
Planning and Organizing of Operations and Training
Collects and analyzes security data and identifies trends and potential causes of security related incidents, criminal activity, , and disturbances and reports data to the Manager, Security Services
Conducts threat analysis, vulnerability assessments, and security assessments on various locations throughout the College
Keeps up-to-date on new security methods, techniques, and legislation that may impact Seneca procedures and practices
Works with various college departments on awareness training in the area of safety and security (Campus wide safety audits, sexual violence training, crime prevention, etc.)
Emergency Management
May be required to assist with emergency situations and assist with the emergency management program including participation in operational and discussion-based exercises

Qualifications:
Education
Minimum of a completed two (2) year diploma in Police Foundations or Law and Security. If in another field of study, state how the education is related.
 Experience
Minimum 3 years progressive security supervisory experience is required
Preferred work experience in post-secondary or a broader public sector environment
Experience working with CCTV systems, alarm systems, access control and security software/hardware
Experience in interpreting the various laws, acts and by-laws
Coordinating emergency response to incidents on campus
Experience in Dispute Resolution and incident investigations
Skills
Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Code, Private Security & Investigative Services Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, applicable provincial statues and Municipal By-Laws
Basic technical knowledge of alarm systems, closed circuit television systems, and electric access system
A valid Ontario driver™s license is required
CPR and First Aid Certificate is preferred.
(Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) CPTED Certification is preferred
Strong advocacy and negotiation skills, conflict resolution and mediation skills
Ability to foster individual and team development in a complex environment
Note: A skills assessment test may be administered during the recruitment process. The incumbent will be assigned to, and will split their time between the Seneca@York and the King Campus as required/scheduled by management. Assigned locations are subject to change and travel to alternate campuses may be required from time to time on an as needed basis.
