Hello all, Trent University is in the planning stages of building a new academic and residence building at our Durham Campus. The current intent is to have card access readers on the residence doors, the debate is whether to hard wire each door or use wifi hubs, similar to hotels. The wifi hubs would be cheaper and take up less infrastructure, but there are concerns whether they are secure enough.
Do any of you have any insight, currently use the wifi card access readers or had any negative activity because of card readers on residence doors?
Thanks in advance for anyone who reads this and responds.

Hi Jason,
At Loyalist, our student residence building use the Lennel Onguard system with Onity door lock (not recommended) wireless card readers for their residence doors. All exterior doors readers are hard wired on the College's main access control system.
No security concerns. Only recommendations I can make so that you don't make the same mistakes we did, purchase class 1 locks, not class 3 (more rugged/industrial use) and ensure there is a key override for the lock. We have had several locks not open with the hand held PDA.
Hope this information was useful.
